Following-up Matters More Than Perfection in Parenting

All parents make mistakes.

They yell.

They lose patience.

They overreact.

The issue is not the mistake.

It is the absence of following-up.

How can I follow up?

I Reconnect after the rupture.

John Bowlby showed that secure relatiosnhips are built through correcting the mistakes — not perfection.

What Follow up sounds like

“I shouldn’t have yelled.”

“You didn’t deserve that.”

“I’m here. Let’s try again.”

What Children Learn

• Mistakes are fixable

• Relationships are safe

• Responsibility is strength

You don’t need to be a perfect parent.

You need to be:

  • Present.

  • Accountable.
